Bench desking runs desks together on a shared frame, back-to-back or side-by-side, so neighbouring positions share legs and a central cable spine. The arithmetic is the appeal: more people seated per square metre, and per pound, than the same headcount on individual desks.

What is a bench desk?

What is the difference between single row and back-to-back?
A single row faces everybody the same way, which suits a wall or a walkway. Back-to-back puts two rows nose to nose off one frame, which is the most efficient use of floor space and is what most open-plan offices use. Both come in two, three, four and six person versions here.
Can I add desks to a bank later?
Yes, that is the point of the format. Extension kits add a bay onto an existing run using the frame that is already there, so you are buying a top, a leg station and the fixings rather than a whole desk. They need the original bank to bolt onto and the finish has to match, so check both before ordering.
Do I need screens between the desks?
On a back-to-back run, most people want them: a screen down the middle gives each side a sightline break and takes some of the noise out. Our desk screens category has back-to-back screens sized to match these widths.
How much space does a bank need?
Allow the desk depth plus about a metre behind each person for the chair and a walkway. Widths per person are usually 120cm to 180cm. If you are laying out a whole floor, send us the plan and we will work out what fits and quote the lot as one job.
How long does delivery take?
Standard delivery is free on everything, and most of it lands inside a week. Express delivery is offered on much of the range, priced per item on the product page, and gets an order to you within two working days if you place it before 5pm. Nothing here is made to order, so the lead times are the standard ones.
Do you offer installation?
Yes, on everything here. The crew deliver it, build it, put it where you want it and take the packaging away. It starts at £25.95 an item and the exact price is on each product page. Installs usually happen within about 10 working days, and the team agree the day with you rather than simply turning up.
Does it come assembled?
Most of it arrives flat-packed, with the instructions and fittings in the box. If you would rather not build it, pre-assembled delivery and installation are offered on much of the range and priced per item on the product page.
What warranty does it come with?
Guarantees across this category run to 10 years, depending on the product and the part, and the figure is on every product page. Structure, mechanism, electrics, and fabric and foam are often covered for different lengths of time. If something fails inside the warranty, report it from your order page and we deal with the manufacturer for you.
Can I see it in 3D?
