Behind the Scenes

Buying furniture online has a built-in weakness. You cannot sit on it, measure it or walk round it. The product page has to do all of that for you. If you are looking for office furniture specifications online, here is what a Deskwell product page carries and why each part is there, using one desk as the example: the Air dual motor electric height adjustable standing desk.

Office furniture specifications online: the specification tab

Every measurement a specifier asks for is in one table. For the Air dual motor standing desk that means widths from 120cm to 180cm, depths of 70cm or 80cm, a top 25mm thick, and a height range of 66.5cm to 131.5cm. It also lists the weight capacity (120kg), the speed (38mm per second) and the space under the top, which matters if you are fitting a pedestal or a pair of knees. The figure for width under the top runs from 93.5cm to 153.5cm, and that is the one to check against your own legs and your own storage.

The motor details sit in the same table: two motors, four memory height settings, a digital display, an anti-collision sensor, an anti-trap safety stop, a lockable handset, a USB port and a sit-stand reminder timer. The guarantee is there too, 10 years on the structure and 5 on the electrical parts.

Downloads

Below the specification is a Downloads tab with the technical sheets as PDFs. The Air desk has six, one for each version, including with cable ports, with a steel modesty panel and a slimline top. Download the one that matches what you are buying and you can send it to whoever signs off the purchase, or file it with the paperwork for your facilities team.

A technical sheet is a better thing to attach to an email than a link to a product page that might change next month.

3D views

Many products have a 3D model. Click View in 3D and you can turn the desk round and look at it from any side. View in your room shows it in your own space. Neither is a gimmick. A photograph shows one angle, and a model lets you look at the things a buyer actually wonders about, such as where the legs sit or how a modesty panel hangs.

Frequently asked questions

The Air desk page has 45 questions answered under the FAQs tab, with a search box so you can type a word or two. Sizes are the first one, and the answers are written for a buyer, not a brochure.

Reviews

There is a Reviews tab on every product. At the moment the Air desk says: No reviews yet. If you have bought this, yours would be the first. We think that is better than filling the space with something made up, and the review form is open to people who have bought the product.

Prices

Prices are shown ex VAT by default, and there is a switch beside the listing to show them with VAT. The page price is the price for every business, whether you order one desk or fifty.

What to check before you buy

  • The overall size and the range under the top, against the space you have.

  • The weight capacity and the guarantee.

  • The technical sheet for the exact version you are ordering.

  • The 3D model, for the angles a photograph leaves out.

  • The FAQs, in case somebody has asked your question already.

Take ten minutes with those five and you have done the homework that most suppliers expect you to do on the phone. Our height adjustable standing desks category works the same way on every listing, and if you want to narrow it down first, try dual motor standing desks or office desks with a 10 year guarantee.
