Frequently asked questions

How do I choose a safe?

By rating, not by size. Fire protection is certified in minutes of resistance, and security is rated as an insurable cash value with a higher figure for valuables. Work out what you are protecting it from and what your insurer expects you to hold, then buy the rating that matches. The sizes follow from there.

What is the difference between a fire safe and a security safe?

They solve different problems. A fire safe keeps the inside cool enough for paper or media to survive a blaze, and may not be especially hard to break into. A security safe resists attack and may offer little fire protection. If you need both, buy a safe rated for both rather than assuming.

Will my insurer accept it?

That is between you and them, and it is worth asking before you buy rather than after. The cash and valuables ratings on these pages are the manufacturer's figures and they are what an insurer will want to see, but your policy has the final say on the rating required and on how it must be fixed.

Does it need bolting down?

Almost always, and insurers usually require it on anything a person could carry. A safe that can be picked up is a lockable box with a handle on it. Fixing bolts and pre-drilled holes are standard on this sort of safe; the floor or wall has to be solid enough to take them.

How long does delivery take?

Most of this category is made or ordered in for you rather than stocked, so allow 10 to 15 working days. They are also heavy, and the specification tab gives the weight: plan the route in and check the floor before delivery day.

Does it come assembled?

A good deal of it arrives ready to use rather than flat-packed, which is common on steel products. Where something does need building, the instructions and fittings are in the box, and pre-assembled delivery or installation can be picked at checkout instead.

What warranty does it come with?

Each product carries the manufacturer's warranty and the period is stated on that product's page, often broken down by part: the structure for one length of time, the mechanism and the fabric for another. If something fails inside the warranty, report it from your order page and we deal with the manufacturer for you.

Can I change my mind after ordering?

On stocked items, yes: tell us within 14 days of receiving them and raise it from your order page, with the goods unused and back in their packaging. Most of this range is made to order, though, and made-to-order goods cannot be cancelled once acknowledged or returned because you have changed your mind. Each product page says which it is before you buy.

Can you quote for a whole office?

Yes. For twenty items or more, or anything with a complication like a mezzanine or a lift that argues back, we plan the job and give you one quote covering the goods, delivery and installation. Ring 0208 138 0512 or email [email protected] with a rough list or a floor plan.
