The privacy booth answers open plan's most obvious flaw: nowhere to take a call. High acoustic backs and sides wrap around the seat and absorb most of what is said inside, so a conversation stays roughly where it started. Open booths seat one for focused work, or face two benches across a small table for a meeting nobody had to book.
There is no building work involved, no drawings and no negotiation with the landlord - a booth arrives, goes in a corner, and gives the floor a quiet room it did not have that morning. Enclosed office pods take it further with a door and a ceiling, for the calls that really should not carry.
