Cantilever Chairs
The classic sprung-steel cantilever chair - no back legs, a gentle bounce, and no complaints.
The cantilever chair balances the seat on a continuous steel frame with no back legs, which gives it two useful properties: a slight, comfortable flex when you sit, and glides instead of castors, so it stays where it is put and leaves carpets unmarked.
Cantilever chairs are the default guest seating for meeting rooms and across-the-desk conversations - smart, stable, and easy to line up in neat rows. Many designs stack for storage, and the sled base slides over carpet without the tipping hazard of four legs on deep pile. A design classic that stuck around because it works.
Frequently asked questions
What is a cantilever chair?
A chair with no back legs. The frame sweeps from the front feet under the seat and up the back in one piece, so it flexes slightly as you sit and lean. They are the standard meeting and visitor chair in most offices, and the give in the frame is why they are more comfortable than they look.
Will the frame mark the floor?
The feet are the thing to check. Cantilever frames spread weight over four small contact points, so on a hard floor the glide matters. If you are putting these on wood or polished concrete, say so when you order and we will make sure the right glides go on.
Arms or no arms?
Both are here. Arms are better for longer meetings and for anyone who needs a push to get up; no arms lets chairs tuck fully under a table, which matters in a tight room. Several models offer it as a choice on the page.
Do cantilever chairs stack?
Some do and most do not, because the frame shape that makes them comfortable is the same shape that stops them nesting. The page says which, and there is a stacking and folding category if that is the deciding factor.
How long does delivery take?
Standard delivery is free on everything, and most of it lands inside a week. Express delivery is offered on much of the range, priced per item on the product page, and gets an order to you within two working days if you place it before 5pm. Seven of the 16 products here are made to order rather than stocked, and those take 10 to 15 working days. The product page says which, and shows the date it will arrive by before you pay.
Do you offer installation?
Yes, on everything here. The crew deliver it, build it, put it where you want it and take the packaging away. It starts at £17.95 an item and the exact price is on each product page. Installs usually happen within about 10 working days, and the team agree the day with you rather than simply turning up.
Does it come assembled?
Most of it arrives flat-packed, with the instructions and fittings in the box. If you would rather not build it, pre-assembled delivery and installation are offered on much of the range and priced per item on the product page.
What warranty does it come with?
Each product carries the manufacturer's warranty and the period is stated on that product's page, often broken down by part: the structure for one length of time, the mechanism and the fabric for another. If something fails inside the warranty, report it from your order page and we deal with the manufacturer for you.
Can I see it in 3D?
Eight of the 16 products in this category have a 3D model on the page rather than only photographs. The viewer spins the actual model, and changing a colour or a size on the page changes the model with it, which is worth doing before committing a whole room to a finish.
Can I change my mind after ordering?
On stocked items, yes: tell us within 14 days of receiving them and raise it from your order page, with the goods unused and back in their packaging. Seven of the 16 products here are made to order, though, and those cannot be cancelled once acknowledged or returned because you have changed your mind. Each product page says which it is before you buy.
Can you quote for a whole office?
Yes. For twenty items or more, or anything with a complication like a mezzanine or a lift that argues back, we plan the job and give you one quote covering the goods, delivery and installation. Ring 0208 138 0512 or email [email protected] with a rough list or a floor plan.
