When is a round top the right choice?

For conversation rather than presentation: everybody can see everybody and there is no head of the table. Round tables seat fewer people than a rectangle of the same footprint, which is the trade.

How many people will it seat?

Allow 60cm to 70cm of edge per person and leave room to pull a chair back. A 180cm rectangular table seats six comfortably, eight at a squeeze, and the squeeze is always more obvious in the room than on the plan.

Will there be a leg where somebody wants to sit?

The question to ask on anything over about 160cm. Post and pedestal bases keep the edge clear; box and sled frames are more stable but put a leg somewhere. The specification tab and the photographs show the positions.
