## Description

Single person bench desk workstation that starts an Impulse bench run or stands alone as a smart office desk. A wood finished 25mm top with double cable ports in widths from 120cm to 180cm, on powder coated goal post legs with a conjoinable frame. Seven finishes, three frame colours, a 135kg capacity and a 10 year guarantee.

#### The desk that starts the bench

Every Impulse bench run begins with a starter bench desk for one person: a complete, self-supporting workstation with legs at both ends. On its own it is a clean, well-made single desk. Its real trick is the conjoinable frame system, which lets extension kits join the end of it later, growing one desk into a bench for two, three or more without fuss and without replacing what you already own. Buy one seat today, add the next when the business needs it.

#### Cable ports where the cables actually are

The desk carries double cable ports, so monitor leads, chargers and laptop power drop straight through the desktop instead of trailing across it or over the back. At just 80cm deep it sits neatly against a wall or window, the 25mm thick top with 2mm protective edging shrugs off the everyday knocks from chairs and bags, and adjustable feet keep it solid and level even where the floor is not.

#### Finishes to match the rest of the office

The wood finished tops come in a choice of seven: Beech, Grey Oak, Maple, Oak, Walnut, White or Black, over goal post legs powder coated in Black, Silver or White. The desk is designed to match our Impulse desking and storage ranges, so the desk, a pedestal and a run of cupboards can all arrive looking like one deliberate scheme rather than a collection of purchases.

#### Right for your business

The single starter suits anyone planning ahead: a first hire who will not be the last, a home office that matches the company scheme, or the anchor desk of a bench run that grows a seat at a time. One clear price, full specifications on the page, and no sales calls required.

## Questions and answers

#### What sizes does it come in?

There are four widths (120cm, 140cm, 160cm and 180cm). Every one is 80cm deep and 75cm high. Clearance under the top is 65.5cm.

#### Which finishes can I choose?

There are seven: Beech, Grey Oak, Maple, Oak, Walnut, White and Black. Pick the one you want before it goes in the basket.

#### What colour is the frame?

You choose: Black, Silver or White. It is picked separately, so the frame can be matched to whatever else is in the room.

#### What shape is the top?

The top is straight. It is 25mm thick, in MFC. It stands on box frame legs.

#### What load will it take?

It is rated to 135kg.

#### What materials is it made from?

MFC. MFC is melamine-faced chipboard, the standard contract desktop: it wipes clean and does not mark the way a veneer does.

#### How heavy is it?

Between 49.9kg and 58.4kg, depending on the size you pick. That is a two-person lift, so think about stairs and lifts before delivery day.

#### Can I see it in 3D?

Yes. The viewer on this page spins the actual model rather than a photograph, so you can look at the back of it, and switching a colour or a size on the page switches the model with it. Worth doing before you settle on a finish.

#### What sort of office is it meant for?

We file it under Impulse, Hot Desking & Agile Working, Co-working & Startup and Call Centre, which is the honest summary of where it earns its keep. If yours is none of those, the specification above will tell you more than the category will.

#### Does it come assembled?

It arrives flat-packed as standard, with the instructions and fittings in the box. If you would rather not build it, installation is £25.95 an item at checkout, and the crew build it and put it where it is going.

#### How long does delivery take?

Standard delivery is free and usually lands inside a week. If you are in a hurry, express is £8.95 an item and gets it to you within two working days when you order before 5pm. The date it will arrive by is on the page and again at checkout before you pay, counted in working days with weekends and bank holidays already taken out.

#### What warranty does it come with?

Ten years, from the manufacturer. If something fails inside the warranty, report it from your order page and we deal with the manufacturer for you.

#### What is a bench desk?

Desks that share one frame instead of each having their own legs. It fits more people into a floor, costs less per person than the same number of standalone desks, and gives one continuous run for cable management. 18 ranges here, from £165.

#### What is the difference between single row and back-to-back?

A single row faces everybody the same way, which suits a wall or a walkway. Back-to-back puts two rows nose to nose off one frame, which is the most efficient use of floor space and is what most open-plan offices use. Both come in two, three, four and six person versions here.

#### Can I add desks to a bank later?

Yes, that is the point of the format. Extension kits add a bay onto an existing run using the frame that is already there, so you are buying a top, a leg station and the fixings rather than a whole desk. They need the original bank to bolt onto and the finish has to match, so check both before ordering.

#### Do I need screens between the desks?

On a back-to-back run, most people want them: a screen down the middle gives each side a sightline break and takes some of the noise out. Our desk screens category has back-to-back screens sized to match these widths.

#### How much space does a bank need?

Allow the desk depth plus about a metre behind each person for the chair and a walkway. Widths per person are usually 120cm to 180cm. If you are laying out a whole floor, send us the plan and we will work out what fits and quote the lot as one job.

#### Do you offer installation?

Yes, on everything here. The crew deliver it, build it, put it where you want it and take the packaging away. It starts at £25.95 an item and the exact price is on each product page. Installs usually happen within about 10 working days, and the team agree the day with you rather than simply turning up.

#### Can you quote for a whole office?

Yes. For twenty items or more, or anything with a complication like a mezzanine or a lift that argues back, we plan the job and give you one quote covering the goods, delivery and installation. Ring 0208 138 0512 or email hi@deskwell.co.uk with a rough list or a floor plan.

#### What size desk do people actually need?

120cm is workable for a laptop and a screen, 140cm to 160cm is the comfortable standard for most office work, and 180cm suits dual screens or paperwork. Depth of 70cm to 80cm is standard. Widths across this category run from 80cm to 542cm.

#### What is the difference between the desk types?

A straight desk is one person, one top, and is what most offices are built from. A bench desk shares a frame between two or more people and is how you fit a floor efficiently. A corner or L-shaped desk gives more surface in the same footprint and suits a room with a corner to use. A height-adjustable desk does any of those and also goes up.

#### Does the leg type matter?

More than people expect. A cantilever leg leaves the space under the desk clear and is easy to get in and out of. A panel end or box frame is more solid and screens the underside. A cable-managed leg has a route for cables built into it, which is the difference between a tidy floor and a taped-down extension lead.

#### How do I stop the cables looking a mess?

Order the cable management with the desks. A tray under the top, a spine or cartridge to take the drop, and a cable port in the top if you need one, which is an option on many desks here and is cut at the factory. Doing it afterwards costs more and looks it.

#### How long do these last?

The guarantees in this category run to ten years on the structure of several ranges, which tells you what the makers expect. Contract desking is built around an MFC top that wipes clean and a frame that holds square, rather than around a finish that photographs well.

#### Do I have to be a business to buy from you?

Yes. Checkout asks you to confirm that you are buying for your business, trade or profession rather than as a consumer, and it asks for a company name. That is why prices are shown without VAT and why the terms read the way they do. Sole traders and home-based businesses count, and so does an employer buying a desk for somebody working from home.

#### Do your prices include VAT?

No. Every price on the site is shown excluding VAT, because most of our customers reclaim it. VAT is added at checkout and the total you actually pay is on screen before you confirm anything. A VAT invoice follows once the order is complete. Our VAT number is GB 525 3667 81.

#### How do I pay?

Payment is due in full when you order, and the methods available to you are shown at checkout. If you pay by bank transfer, your order is not accepted and the lead time does not start until cleared funds reach our account, so it is worth sending it the same day.

#### Can I pay on account, or on 30 day terms?

No. We take payment before the order goes to the supplier, so there is no credit account to open and no application to fill in. It keeps our prices where they are, and it means nothing is waiting on a credit check while you are waiting for furniture.

#### Can I put a purchase order number on the order?

Yes. There is a Purchase Order Number box at checkout, and what you type there carries through to the paperwork so your accounts team can match it up.

#### Do I need an account to order?

No, you can check out as a guest. You will still be able to see the order afterwards: go to Track Order, give the order number and the delivery postcode, and you get the same order page an account holder sees, with the same buttons for returns, cancellations and damage reports. Making an account simply saves typing the address again next time.

#### How much is delivery?

Standard delivery is free on everything, whatever the size of the order. The paid options are upgrades on top of that: express, pre-assembled and installation, each priced per item and shown on the product page before you add anything to the basket. Where an option is not shown on a product, it is not available for that product.

#### Do you deliver everywhere in the UK?

We deliver across mainland UK. A number of postcodes sit outside the standard service: Northern Ireland, the Scottish Highlands and Islands, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Wight and the Isles of Scilly. We can usually still get furniture to those places, but it has to be quoted rather than booked from the site, so ring 0208 138 0512 or email hi@deskwell.co.uk before you order.

#### Will the delivery crew bring it inside?

Standard delivery is to the door, flat-packed. If you want it carried in and built, choose pre-assembled delivery or installation on the product page. Whichever you pick, the crew ring roughly 30 to 60 minutes before they arrive, so you are not waiting by the window all morning.

#### Can I change my delivery date?

Yes, but not on the day. Our courier partner Furdeco plan their routes in advance, so the three hour slot cannot be moved once the van is out. To rebook for another day, ring Furdeco on 0121 285 5255 with your tracking number and pick a time that suits you. Larger deliveries and installations get a call from our logistics team first anyway, so the day is agreed with you rather than sprung on you.

#### Can I tell the driver how to find us?

Yes, and it is worth doing. There is a box on the delivery step at checkout, 500 characters, for anything the crew needs to know: where a lorry can park, which floor you are on and whether there is a lift, loading bay hours, a gate code, a one-way system the satnav has never heard of, and who to ask for. It travels with the order rather than sitting in a note at our end. It cannot be edited once the order is placed, so if something changes, ring 0208 138 0512 with your order number.

#### What happens if I miss the delivery?

The courier team will contact you to arrange another date, or you can ring Furdeco on 0121 285 5255 with your tracking number and rebook it yourself. Worth avoiding if you can: a failed delivery costs from £10 an item, plus storage if the order has to go back to a warehouse. A gate code in the delivery instructions box costs nothing.

#### Can you take the old furniture away?

Yes, we run a removal and recycling service, quoted per job. It has to be booked before delivery day, because the crew can only take away what they have been booked and equipped to take. Tell us what is going when you order and the swap happens in one visit rather than two.

#### Can I return something?

Tell us within 14 days of receiving it and we will look at it. Go to your order page, either signed in or through Track Order with the order number and delivery postcode, and raise the return there. The goods have to be unused and back in their original boxes, or packed well enough to survive the journey. If you send them back yourself there is no handling charge at all and carriage is at your cost. If you would rather we collected, we may charge up to £35 an item, and we tell you the figure before we collect. Anything you paid for on top, like express delivery or installation, is not refunded, because those services were already carried out.

#### Can I change my mind after ordering?

No. Bespoke and made-to-order goods are built to your specification and cannot be resold, so once we have acknowledged the order it cannot be cancelled, and it cannot be sent back because you have changed your mind. Product pages say plainly when an item is made to order, so take a moment over the options before you check out. None of that affects your rights if it arrives damaged or faulty.

#### Can I cancel an order?

Ask as soon as you can, from your order page. Before anything is dispatched we can often cancel it, though where costs have already been incurred with the supplier we may deduct those before refunding the balance. Once something has been dispatched it becomes a return rather than a cancellation. Made-to-order items cannot be cancelled at all once we have acknowledged them.

#### Something arrived damaged. What do I do?

Tell the delivery crew at the door. They note it down and photograph it, and that record is what settles the claim with the carrier later. If you turn the delivery away because of the damage, the crew take the goods with them and we arrange a replacement. If you only spot it after they have gone, open your order, press Report a problem and send photographs, up to six on one report. Do it within five days: carriers stop entertaining a claim once a delivery is more than a few days old. A damage report is counted separately from a return, so a breakage does not use up your 14 days.

#### How do I track my order?

A confirmation email lands as soon as you order, and the moment it is on its way you get a dispatch email with a full tracking link. You can also go to Track Order at any time with your order number and the delivery postcode. Your order number starts with DW.

#### Is everything on the site actually in stock?

Anything out of stock is hidden from the listings, so if you can see it and add it to a basket, we can get it. The exception is made-to-order items, which are not held in stock by design: they are built for you after you order, and their pages say so.

#### How do I get hold of a person?

Ring 0208 138 0512, email hi@deskwell.co.uk, or use the live chat on the site. If it is about an existing order, have the order number to hand and it will be quicker.
